Early own goal gifts Woodlands Wellington in S.League

SINGAPORE: Woodlands Wellington claimed a 1-0 victory against hosts Balestier Khalsa at Toa Payoh Stadium on Monday evening, thanks to a second-minute own goal by Jufri Taha.

The Balestier skipper had the misfortune of heading the ball into his own net when his attempt to head Zakaria Yousif's shot away for a corner was misdirected past goalkeeper Hafez Mawasi.

Balestier were denied an opportunity to go level midway into the first half. This came after referee Muhd Adzhar Adziz waved away calls for a free kick inside the penalty area when Woodlands goalkeeper Rezal Hassan appeared to have picked up a backpass with his hands.

The Tigers were then reduced to 10 men when Brazilian forward Ednardo Moura was sent off seven minutes before the break. - S.League.com
