SINGAPORE - A first-half blitz helped propel Home United to the top of the Group H as the Singapore side hammered Valencia of the Maldives 5-1 at Jalan Besar Stadium on Tuesday.
Firdaus Idros and Peres de Oliveira scored in the first seven minutes and Ludovick Kengne and Juma’at Jantan also struck before the break as Home raced into a 4-0 lead at half-time.
Marcelin Nkemi pulled a back in the second half but Kengne netted his second of the game to restore the four-goal cushion as Home moved to the top of the group with nine points, two ahead of Binh Duong and Provincial Electrical Authority, who played out a 1-1 draw in Vietnam.
Home dominated from the outset and were a goal up after just three minutes when Firdaus tucked away the rebound after Fadzuhasny Juraimi blasted a shot against the crossbar.
De Oliveira made it 2-0 four minutes later, meeting a cross by wingback Juma’at with a cushioned header that eluded Valencia goalkeeper Hassan Rameez.
Kengne struck then struck in the 23rd minute, picking up a pass from de Oliveira and blasting home from 20 yards, giving Rameez no chance.
The match was over as a contest in the 36th minute as Rameez failed to gather a cut-back by de Oliveira, allowing Juma’at an easy finish from two yards.
Valencia rallied strongly after the break and Ibrahim Shiyam was denied a goal when Shahril Alias cleared off his line before Nkemi finally put the visitors on the board squeezing a close-range shot underneath the body of goalkeeper Ridzuan Fatah Hassan after receiving a pass from Yameen Ibrahim.
Winger Yameen almost got a goal himself three minutes later but he blasted wide after a fine one-two with Nkemi.
But that only succeeded in waking Home from their slumbers and they rounded off the scoring 12 minutes from time with Kengne heading home a corner.
