Brunei DPMM FC aim to topple table-toppers Gombak United when they clash in the league match tomorrow at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
The tide may have tilted in favour of Brunei DPMM FC as Gombak leading striker Ojimi Obatola will not play after collecting four yellow cards.
However,Brunei DPMM's biggest disadvantage is the synthetic grass of the stadium which they are still not accustomed to playing in such surface.
Brunei DPMM coach said in an interview yesterday: "Gombak which scored three goals against SAFFC,last year's league champions, deserved to be on top f table. We are unlucky to play away and the synthetic grass is the biggest worry for us.It's not easy for the players but we will do our best to face Gombak United."
"We are currently in a comfortable position and we want to move forward," Simunic added.
"I expect the same game against Tampines when we face Gombak. However, if we are playing in Brunei, I am sure we can put a very good fight," the coach said when asked about the game tomorrow.
Regarding the team fitness, Simunic assured the players are physically and mentally ready for the challenge.
Simunic also cleared the air on speculation that he doesn't like some of the players by saying: "I have been here for more than a year to build a compact team and relationship between myself and the players are wonderful."
"I am satisfied with the players, especially the imports. Now we are trying to communicate with Abdel Hamid who does not speak English, and only French.I am trying to speak French and he is trying to speak English," he reiterated.
"The speculation in the Singapore media is untrue.I trust my players well and my players trust me. There might have been a misunderstanding," he said.
The Croatian also said, "The Singapore League is one of the best leagues in the region, all teams are good and have an equal chance of winning. We must take each game at a time and to take points from each game to reach our target.I hope that none of our players sustain any injuries from each of the games."
Local football fans can watch the match-up between Brunei DPMM and Gombak United live on RTB2 courtesy of Maju Motor tomorrow night at 7.30pm.
