The home side battled back to equalise through Hafiz Osman shortly after Masashi Motoyama had volleyed Kashima ahead.
But Atsuto Uchida restored Kashima's lead just before the break and Yuya Osako extended their advantage early in the second half before Daniel Bennett’s own goal in stoppage time sealed the points.
De Oliveira could feel reasonably satisfied as Kashima joined Shanghai Shenhua and Suwon Bluewings in first place in Group G with six points
“We came here to win against the weakest team in the group and we got the three points,” said the Brazilian.
“We now have to think of winning again in the return game in Japan in two weeks’ time as my immediate goal is qualification for the next round.
“Tonight, SAF FC played as they played in their other two games,” de Oliveira added.
“They gave up their defensive system after half-time and that gave us more space to attack. We could have scored some more goals.
“I am satisfied with how my team performed. Barring any serious injury, I am going to have the same starting line-up in the next game.”
It might have been a different story if Aleksandar Duric had converted a penalty when Kashima were leading 3-1 but the SAF skipper’s weak attempt was easily stopped by Hitoshi Sogahata.
While disappointed that his side have yet to manage a point in the group, SAF coach Richard Bok was proud of his side's battling performance.
“I thought at a certain stage we played well and gave them a shock. As in the previous two games, I think we have given a good account of ourselves at the higher level,” said SAF coach Richard Bok
“While Alex might have missed a penalty, he still gave his all. He might be having a lean spell at the moment, but he is still my captain and a trusted Warrior.
“Therdsak (Chaiman) held his own ground and at the age of 36, he played the type of football he is still capable of at this level.
“Suwon and Kashima are still the top two teams in our group. Hopefully when Shanghai come to Singapore, we will be able to give them a Shanghai surprise.”
