SAFFC suffer third defeat in AFC Champions League

SINGAPORE: Singapore's SAFFC, the first Singapore team to compete in Asia's premier club competition - the AFC Champions League - suffered their third successive defeat.

They lost 4-1 to Japan's Kashima Antlers at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Despite home ground advantage, it was the more experienced Japanese team which opened accounts, going ahead in the 23rd minute.

SAFFC responded almost immediately with Hafiz Osman equalising.

But Kashima Antlers ensured all three points with three more goals, including an own goal by Daniel Bennett in the 90th minute.

SAFFC will play the same team again on April 22, this time at Kashima Antlers' home ground - the Kashima Soccer Stadium.

Before Tuesday's match, the SAFFC were defeated 4-1 by China's Shanghai Shenhua in an away match. They also suffered a 2-0 home defeat against Korea's Suwon Samsung Bluewings. - CNA/ir/de
