BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei: Rookie outfit DPMM of Brunei continued their fairytale run in the Great Eastern-Yeo's S.League, moving to the top of the table after posting a 1-0 victory over Sengkang Punggol at the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Stadium in Bandar Seri Begawan on Tuesday night.
A Shahrazen Said strike in the 61st minute was enough to send the Brunei side above league leaders Gombak United, at least until the Bulls play Woodlands Wellington on Thursday.
DPMM have played a game more than both Gombak and the champions SAFFC, who host Albirex Niigata on Thursday.
DPMM coach Vjeran Simunic was understandably pleased after the match, and said: "I hope we have proved wrong those who thought that Brunei DPMM would struggle in the S.League.
"I can't say if we will challenge for the S.League title because it is a very tough league, but the way we are playing at the moment, I can say that we would be champions in the M.League!"
The club played in the M.League from 2005, before joining the S.League this season.
The buoyant Brunei side face some tough assignments next, with matches against Tampines Rovers on April 3 and Gombak a week later. They will then take on SAFFC on April 26. - TODAY
