SINGAPORE – Former Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) winger Jamal Ali scored twice against his former employers as Woodlands Wellington fought back from two-down to defeat the Warriors 3-2 on Sunday.
SAF went into their fifth match of the 2009 S.League looking to bounce back from last Wednesday’s 2-0 AFC Champions League Group G defeat at the hands of Suwon Samsung Bluewings and were well on course to maintaining their 100% domestic record with Korean midfielder Park Tae-won (20th) and John Wilkinson (34th) giving the Warriors a two-goal cushion at the interval.
Jamil reduced the deficit four minutes after the restart before Iranian striker Mojtaba Tehranizadeh levelled the tie with 20 minutes at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium left to play.
And it was ex-Warrior Jamil who would have the final say, completing the remarkable comeback win with his second and the Rams’ third in the 79th minute.
The defeat saw SAF surrender top spot in the S.League to Gombak United, who defeated the Young Lions 1-0 to record their fourth win of the season and take their tally to 13 points, one more than the Warriors.
